ÖBB Nightjet has introduced a new generation of night trains, and the Nightjet Mini Cabins are a unique way to travel by train in Europe.

Inside the Nightjet Mini Cabin
Each carriage contains 28 Mini Cabins and 3 classic compartments. You can choose between upper and lower cabins, and every cabin has sliding doors for privacy.
Inside the cabin, there is a foldable table with a mirror, foldable coat hooks, USB charging, power sockets, ventilation control, and wireless charging.
For sleeping, there is a small pillow, a red Nightjet blanket, and clean sheets.
The window is small and comes with adjustable blinds. Cabins can also be connected via a sliding door(on the same level), making it possible to book for couples.
Storage is split between a hand luggage locker (40 × 55 × 23 cm), a shoe locker (18 × 57 × 15 cm), and hidden space under the mattress (103 × 47 × 25 cm). Each locker is numbered to match the cabin.
The lighting can be adjusted with different colours.
The cabin size is 190 × 63.5 × 90 cm. Inside, we were provided with a paper trash bag, a bottle of water, and a small biscuit.

We paid €144.90 (about $170.25) per person for one Mini Cabin. Prices vary depending on the travel date, so it is worth checking in advance for better deals.
Onboard Services and Facilities on ÖBB Nightjet
During the journey on the ÖBB Nightjet Sleeper Train, we also checked out the onboard toilet facilities.
There are separate toilets for men and women, and we found them to be clean and well-maintained throughout the trip. Inside, you’ll find a large mirror, a separate washbasin, and even power sockets, which are quite useful on a night train.
Everything was fully stocked, including toilet paper and basic supplies, and the doors closed automatically for convenience and hygiene.
Overall, the facilities were functional and in good condition.
Breakfast on board the train is served in the morning, around 08:00, and is included in the ticket price. The train staff delivers it directly to your Mini Cabin, so you can enjoy it in privacy. Around 08:20, we received our breakfast, which included tea or coffee, two rolls, jam, butter, milk, sugar, and cutlery.
The folding table inside the cabin makes it possible to sit and eat quite comfortably, and there is enough headroom to sit upright, which is a big advantage compared to many other sleeper trains.

Is the ÖBB Nightjet Mini Cabin Worth It?
Pros
Traveling in the Mini Cabin offers a high level of privacy for solo travelers or couples. The bed is comfortable enough for a night journey. Inside the Mini Cabin, there is enough space to enjoy breakfast in a seated position.
Cons
Adjusting the lighting in the Mini Cabin produces a loud beeping sound, which can become noticeable during the journey.
Shortly after departure, the food was already sold out — only one portion of the main course was left.
Bedding is collected early in the morning.
Travelling with larger luggage can be inconvenient, as storage space inside the Mini Cabin is limited.
Our Experience on the ÖBB Nightjet Sleeper Train
We departed from Amsterdam Centraal at 18:30. Our journey in the Nightjet mini cabin was from Amsterdam to Vienna. The whole journey takes 15 hours and 18 minutes, and the train covers approximately a distance of 1200 km (746 mi).
Nightjet Mini Cabin focused mainly on the privacy and compact design of the cabin. The space is limited, which can be noticeable when travelling with larger luggage, although for shorter trips or weekend travel with smaller bags, this may not be an issue.
The mini cabin is generally well insulated, which helps create a private space for the journey, while the lighting system stands out as a modern feature, even though the beeping sound when adjusting it can be quite loud. The sliding doors were the most noticeable source of noise during the night, as they are frequently used by passengers throughout the carriage.
In the morning, breakfast was served directly to the cabin and was included in the ticket price, which made for a convenient start to the day before arrival in Vienna.
